Bring the water to the boil and leave the tin to boil for 3 hours. While the pan is on the fire, check now and then if the tin is still under water, if necessary pour some extra water into the pan leave the lid on the pan, so the water does not evaporate as quickly. Let the tin cool down completely after cooking before you start to use it. When unopened, you can keep the tin in a cool and dark place for a few months.
